Frank Darabont gives an update on Walking Dead season 2

The first season of The Walking Dead was brilliant, a few missteps aside. It was refreshing to see a gore-drenched Romero homage on television, even though the series struggled to top Frank Darabont’s near-perfect pilot. However, the finale left dead-heads everywhere craving more, so it’s good to know that AMC are expanding the second season from six to twelve episodes. Filming is now underway, and Darabont has taken to the web to mark the occasion and provide us with some new snaps:

“At this moment, I’m standing on a stretch of post-apocalypse interstate in Georgia, littered with abandoned cars and blessing my good luck to be reunited with our amazing cast, and our fantastic directors and crew. Across the board, there are none better. It’s great to be shooting again. I think we’ve embarked on a great season.”

The second season is due to air in the US this October, and boasts an episode by guest writer Stephen King. Personally, I can’t frigging wait. Head over to the AMC site to see an extra photo.

You’re right about the series never quite topping the pilot. The emotional gravitas and desolate beauty of that first episode was eventually eclipsed by the stupidity of the season finale. Still, I can’t wait for more. Long live AMC.
