Trailer Trash #4: Dollman (1991)

Ah, Dollman. What can we say about this particular bit of hackery?

Well, for starters, it was directed by trash icon Albert Pyun, who made the 90’s, straight-to-video version of Captain America. It also “boasts” a story by schlock merchant (and Empire Pictures head) Charles Band. If that wasn’t enough, the supporting cast includes Jackie Earle Haley, who would eventually play Rorschach in Watchmen, and resurrect Freddy Krueger. He’s come a long way.

Dollman is a sci-fi/action hybrid that is almost too ridiculous to believe. Via IMDb:

Brick Bardo (Tim Thomerson) is a traveller from outer space who is forced to land on Earth. Though regular-sized on his home planet, he is doll-sized here, as are the enemy forces who landed with him. While Brick enlists the help of an impoverished girl and her son, the villains enlist the help of a local gang. When word leaks out on his location, all hell breaks loose…

Along with nominal “names”, cheap production values and a story that wouldn’t pass muster in a Troma production, Dollman has quite the trailer. This is one of the most unintentionally hilarious advertisments in film history. At least the Robocop music is on hand  to give the affair some class.

Cheers to Dan Cartwright for the find.
