Weezer and Alkaline Trio among the artists working on a Muppets tribute album

If you didn’t already know, there’s a new Muppet movie on the way, simply titled The Muppets. To celebrate the release, a whole heap of famous acts have joined forces to record a tribute compilation. Dubbed The Green Album, the release will feature covers from such artists as Weezer, Alkaline Trio, Paramore’s Hayley Williams and OK GO. What an odd mix of talent.

The official tracklisting:

OK GO – “Muppet Show Theme”
Weezer and Hayley Williams – “Rainbow Connection”
The Fray – “Mahna Mahna”
Alkaline Trio – “Moving Right Along”
My Morning Jacket – “Our World”
Amy Lee – “Halfway Down The Stairs”
Sondre Lerche – “Mr. Bassman”
The Airborne Toxic Event – “Wishing Song”
Brandon Saller and Billy Martin – “Night Life”
Andrew Bird – “Bein’ Green”
Matt Nathanson – “Hope That Something Better Comes Along”
Rachael Yamagata – “I’m Going to Go Back There Someday”

NME reports that the compilation will be available August 23rd, and I’m certainly intrigued to hear a few of these. As for the movie, UK audiences will have to wait until February next year to see the return of Kermit and his cohorts.
