Not long after the debut of Superman’s new suit, a raft of behind-the-scenes set snaps have leaked from Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, giving us a clearer look at the sure-to-be-controversial costume. He looks like the Kryptonian hero to me, and it’s worth noting that photos caught on a mobile phone can’t compare to colour-timed film stock. Nit-picking aside, these shots are promising.
Something tells me that the DC geeks are going to nit-pick this outfit to death, which is only expected when a character has more or less worn the same design for 70-plus years. Even Batman has had more costume variations. I’m just amazed that they finally discarded the red underpants. About bloody time.
Man of Steel will star Henry Cavill as the invincible alien, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon as the villainous General Zod, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as the Kents, and Laurence Fishburne as rotund Daily Planet Editor Perry White. There’s still no word on an appearance from the character’s chief antagonist, Lex Luthor, who was last personified by Kevin Spacey. Is it too late to start that “Bryan Cranston for Lex Luthor” campaign? Make it happen, Snyder!
Superman will fly into cinemas in 2013. That’s too damn long to wait.
